About Bedford Catenians

Circle 177 of The Catenian Association

We are a friendly Catholic Men’s Association formed in 1908 in Manchester with the blessing of the Bishop of Salford.

There are circa 300 different groups (called Circles) all over the U.K. with more in Ireland; Australia; Malta; India; Zimbabwe; Bangladesh and The Holy Land.

In Bedford, we meet once a month currently at Woodlands Manor Hotel, for a monthly meeting and dinner. Our wives join us four times a year.

We have an active social programme with periodic weekend pub lunches and other social events.

The wives and ladies have a thriving monthly book club.

We have members in all the Bedford parishes but we would love to have more and we welcome all Catholic gentlemen in this area to get in touch.

Where We Meet

We meet monthly and arrange activities both for their members and their families: meals together , barbecues, picnics, visits to the theatre and sporting events are all popular.

Who We Are

We are a network of Catholic men who get together on a regular basis to support and care for one another as well as to enjoy each other’s company.

What We Do

We are dedicated to fostering fellowship, providing mutual support, and promoting Christian values among our members. We have regular meetings, charitable activities, and initiatives supporting vocations and family life.

Our Aims

To foster friendship and social bonds among the members and their families.

To advance the interests of members and their dependants by individual or collective action.

To advance the interests of young Catholics and to assist them in the choice or pursuit of a career.

To maintain and administer benevolent funds.

Our Presidents Charity

The Catenian Association is not by definition a “charitable” organisation it does reflect the charitable nature of our members.

Circle Presidents usually have a charity that they raise funds for during their year of office. It is estimated that over £300,000 is raised each year in this way before adding in the further tax related relief which may be claimed by the charities.

Bursary Fund

The Bursary Fund was formed by the Catenian Association. Since founding the organisation has grown and there are now Catenians in Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, Israel, Zimbabwe, South Africa, India, Bangladesh and Australia, and we’re still growing!

Catenians work to support and help Catholic youth – throughout the world.

In 1980 we formed the Bursary Fund, a UK-registered charity, with the aim of offering financial help to young people about to volunteer to do something wonderful for others.
